Sunday, May 15 - Woodlawn Cemetery

Within the beautiful Acadian setting of Woodlawn reposes the most remarkable variety of interesting and historically important people anywhere in America. Duke Ellington, Elisabeth B. Stanton, Herman Melville, Nellie Bly, Fiorello LaGuardia and Admiral Farragut are just some members of the Woodlawn “Hall of Fame.” In this splendid example of a rural, “Elysian Field,” style cemetery nature predominates. Picturesque monuments and memorials, superb examples of the predominant architectural styles of the 19th and 20th centuries, weave and blend into this incredible garden landscape. The rural style cemetery was an early manifestation of the concept of public park and Woodlawn’s 400 acres and miles of paths are the premiere American example. Please join us for a leisurely tour of this “hidden gem.” Call Fran Resch at 914 232-1483 or email dbvfxr@earthlink.net for time directions and other specifics.
